“225,000 pounds capacity on a helical pile?” Is the sort of comment we receive when we post pictures of high capacity helical pile installations. The comments aren’t from people outside of the construction world, they are comments you might get from local engineers.
It’s time to myth bust the thought that helical piles are only good for decks. Helical piles have a long history and strong engineering pedigree, however, there aren’t many engineers in Manitoba who have taken the effort to properly study the technology. Those who have made the effort however find confidence in the technology.
Some of the most well versed in helical pile design and performance in Manitoba are employed with Manitoba Hydro. Bipole III is supported on various types of piles and included in the mix are thousands of helical piles.
Albertans are well aware of helical piles and building large structures on helical piles is common place.
