A professionally installed helical pile means maintenance-free cottage enjoyment for summers to come!
A traditional concrete foundation in cabin country is cumbersome for many reasons. Remote mobilization of large equipment and several subtrades required to install a cast-in-place foundation is very expensive. Concrete piles need 20 feet or more to have a fighting chance to resist from in Manitoba and NW Ontario. Another challenge for concrete piles in cabin country is you can’t always get that deep. If concrete piles don’t get deep enough, they are prone to frost heave and that means maintenance.
Helical piles on the other hand can perform with as little as 5 feet of embedment. Helical piles only require one trade to mobilize in smaller trucks hauling smaller equipment. Lastly, once installed in accordance with engineering guidelines, helical screw piles perform remarkably well.
